SANYO Philippines, Inc. (SPI) supports the "La Mesa Watershed" project.

When SANYO Global launched its "Think GAIA" program under the stewardship of its new chair Ms. Tomoyo Nonaka, it, in effect, moved away from the commonly held view of 'technology manipulating nature' to the more ideal and cooperative concept of 'technology assisting nature'.

When SANYO Global launched its "Think GAIA" program under the stewardship of its new chair Ms. Tomoyo Nonaka, it, in effect, moved away from the commonly held view of 'technology manipulating nature' to the more ideal and cooperative concept of 'technology assisting nature'.

This concern for the environment is embraced by SANYO subsidiaries worldwide. And SANYO Philippines is no exception.

In Bantay Kalikasan's 'Save the La Mesa Watershed' campaign, SPI found an environmental cause worthy of support. Spanning 2,700 hectares, the La Mesa Watershed is the last forest of its size in Metro Manila and is the reservoir of drinking water for its millions of inhabitants.

Initially, SPI joined its employees plus their families and friends to sign up for the Bantay Kalikasan's signature drive aimed at saving the watershed from the threat of pollution and irreversible damage posed by a proposed housing project within the site.

SPI also 'ad opted a hectare' of the watershed to ensure its succesful reforestation for the next three years. To kick this off, Mr. Tetsuo Hirota, president of SPI led a tree planting ceremony last September 18, 2006 at the La Mesa Ecopark with SANYO employees participating.

Distributed in all SANYO dealerships nationwide were specially designed coinbanks to complement the campaign's fund-raising efforts.

Up for public viewing in the massive electronic billboard in front of SM Megamall in Mandaluyong is SANYO's 10 seconder spot enlisting support for Bantay Kalikasan's signature drive.

* GAIA stands for 'the living earth', the name of the goddess Earth Mother in Greek mythology, and used by J.E. Lovelock of NASA's Mars exploration to describe the 'living organism' that is the earth.

MR. TETSUO HIROTA, President and MR. NOBORU INOUE, Vice President, both of SPI, plant trees at the La Mesa Ecopark in simple ceremonies attended by other SPI officers and employees to kick off SPI's drive to support the 'Save the La Mesa Watershed' project.
